KeepAlive your Wateen WiMAX connection

Software Development Add comments

For all Wateen WiMAX users out there in Pakistan, this small desktop utility will keep you logged in without having to relogin or to find out that your connection was down while you were trying to do something and gave up on it. It is very simple and just uses the web interface to log in and check uploaded and downloaded bytes which are shown on the screen, the green / red square is a status check to see if the connection is up or not. You have to define preferences for username, password, always autologin, and refresh time in seconds. Tested on Windows XP, Ubuntu 7.10, MacOS Tiger.
I also have a J2ME version to be used on WIFI enabled cell phones / PDAs but currently no preference changes are implemented so can not make it available for download, if I get more than 10 comments here asking for it, I’ll take out some time to implement it.

Download the desktop version here:

  5. Saad Says:

Hi Tazzix. Great app - just what I’ve been looking for for months. However, can you give some instructions on how to install it - especially on a Mac?

    Thans.

  6. tazzix Says:

Thanks Saad, just unzip the archive into an empty folder, double click on the “Wateen WiMax.jar” file, if that does not work for you, open a terminal, change to the dir you extracted the files to and issue the following command:
    java -jar “Wateen WiMax.jar”

You may need to install a JRE or JDK if that is not installed already.

  7. Saad Says:

Thanks for the instructions, Tazzix! I’ll try it out tomorrow.

Its a gr8 app… BUT… how can i know that this app doesnt send logs of my login and pass somehwhere else… in such case it is a very dangerous app !

Plz do reply cuz this is of real concern to me !

  9. tazzix Says:

mat1h, I can give you two options:

    1. Use ethereal or wire-shark to check network traffic
    2. don’t use this application

Do you know Java? Most people downloading this app from here won’t know Java so I have put in a compiled app and not the source code which will make it cumbersome to use for ordinary wateen users. Download an 80 MB JDK and stuff, you want the source code? You just needed to ask politely and not blame me of phishing. I can pay for my Internet and don’t give a %$$#! about your password.

  10. mat1h Says:

hi, thanks 4 the reply… i’ve just checked your software using ethereal and its seems ok. NO phishing as far as i can see…

I didnt mean to be rude with you… it was just a question that pops in one’s mind when dealing with such software…

source code will be highly appreciated…

    Cheers!

  11. tazzix Says:

mat1h: the problem is if I was doing phishing, will I accept it? And you knew ethereal so it was best for you to try. But anyways, I spent 5 hours on both J2SE and J2ME versions, you pay Rs. 7500/- I’ll give you everything and remove this post from here, then you own it you can make it freeware / addware / shareware or strike a deal with Wateen whatever. Take it or leave it.

works, BUT dies that mean this window has to be open all time?
there must be option to minimize to system tray…

and people concerned about their security, install a good firewall, like C.O.M.O.D.O

to my observation, its not sending any logs or information to other , also it was not detected as virus through my AntiVirus.

also i am using bandwidth monitor pro, AND wateen also gives you connecting times,
    like
    www.wateen.com/selfcare
    monitor your activity…

Thanks tazzix for this, really i was looking for this, but still to test in what conditions it work…
